Living Ancona
Ancona stands on a promontory shaped bent elbow, which create one of the largest natural harbors the central Adriatic.
The very name of the city recalls its geographical position: ankon in greek means elbow, and so the Greeks was call the city in 387 BC
Ancona as well as being an important commercial port open to the east (to be here every year starting around one million passengers directed mainly in Greece and Croatia), is also rich in history of monuments and parks.
Places to See
Entering in the city you find the Mole Vanvitelliana

military building designed by Vanvitelli (the same architect of the Reggia di Caserta) in 1733.
In Piazza del Plebiscito you can see the Church of St. Domenico under the Crucifixion of an advertisement of Titian and Guercino, near the Government Palace (XIV century). Bosdari and the Palace, seat of Podesti art gallery.

Located on top of Colle Guasco the Cathedral of St. Ciriaco

(XI-XIII sec.): The stone facade of white and pink Conero has an extraordinary broad portal, in the chapel of the Madonna and altar of Vanvitelli, the crypt of Sts. Ciriaco, Liberio and Marcellino. Descending toward the port is the Triumphal Arch of Trajan, the work of Apollodorus of Damascus (115).
In street Loggia you can see Loggia dei Mercanti (XV sec.) With the facade of Giorgio Orsini. Finally, the Fountain of Thirteen Cannelle or Calame (1560) Pellegrino Tibaldi and the remains of the Roman amphitheater (II sec.).

Museums
The National Archaeological Museum of Marche is located in the prestigious Palazzo Ferretti and collects the most important finds from the region including those of the necropolis age of iron (IX-V sec. BC) of Novilara, Numana and Cupra Marittima. Two rooms are dedicated to the Palaeolithic, three in the Neolithic and yet another all'Eneolitico. The museum also host the golden bronze of Cartoceto of Pergola.
The Municipal gallery "Francesco Podesti" and the modern art gallery conserve the Virgin and Child with Saints by Titian, the Madonna and Child by Carlo Crivelli, works by Lorenzo Lotto, Sebastiano del Piombo and Corrado Cagli.
In 1993 he opened the Museum Homer, tactile museum for the blind.

Gastronomy
In addition to seafood specialties, amongst these is the famous soup(brodetto), are to be enjoyed,the below typical food vincisgrassi (lasagna), the snails in porchetta and the "beccute" (shapes of sweet bread made of flour, pine nuts, raisins sultana). Wines d.o.c. Rosso Conero are Lacrima di Morro (red types in dry and sweet) and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, white.Jesi, bianco.

The Conero coast
Unique mount on the Adriatic coast, from the Veneto until Gargano, Mount Conero alternate quiet bays and beaches with sand walls and a rock.
On its top is not uncommon to find restaurants typical immersed in the woods in hedges of broom, laurel, juniper and when the horizon is free you can admire the surrounding hills and fields occasionally interrupted by some town, often surrounded by walls.
The landscape that is admired by every point of view is very varied, but always harmonious.
Portonovo

popular seaside resort of Riviera del Conero.
During the medieval period was inhabited by some monks, as evidenced by the small church of Santa Maria, the XI century and quoted from Dante XXI in the singing of Paradise.
Along the beach, you can see the watchtower, built in 700 to defend themselves against pirates, and the Napoleonic fort of 1808.
Sirolo

Originally Romanesque then medieval castle, conserve still the walls and a big tower, today is the Pearl of the Conero coast, a cliff overlooking the crystal waters of the sea.
Numana
Ancient and important port of the Roman Empire

early 900 that also becomes a destination for holidays at sea is indeed rediscovered the noble Roman and classified as their summer residence.
Today is one of the most prestigious of the Adriatic coast.
Loreto, also known as the Holy City, has developed around the cathedral, the seat of the Holy House, where tradition says the Virgin Mary was born and received the announcement of the birth of Jesus. According to legend, in fact, in 1294 the walls of the house were transferred from Nazareth to Trsat and then to Loreto.
Genga
Common inserted in the regional park of the Gola Rossa and Frasassi.
Small medieval castle in the greenery, is a spa, nature reserve and area of enormous interest speleological with the famous caves of Frasassi.
